Starting to use the goHenry card
Once your child’s card arrives, you’ll need to activate it before they can use it.
Your PIN is a 4-digit Personal Identification Number used when making purchases with your debit card. It ensures an extra layer of security when making electronic payments.
You’ll notice some cards have a gold or silver chip on them, these are sometimes referred to as “chip cards”.
The chip in a debit card utilizes many layers of security including sophisticated fraud protection through an embedded microchip that turns card member information into a unique code when used at a chip-enabled terminal at a store.
All goHenry cards have a Chip in them to ensure we offer our customers secure transactions.
- Insert the chip end of your card into the terminal (instead of swiping).
- Keep your card in the point of sale terminal to complete your purchase until the terminal prompts you to remove the card.
- Don’t forget to take your card with you when you
We always encourage a PIN to be used but it is up to the merchant to decide how to process your purchase in store through their point of sale terminal.
One of the great features of the goHenry card is that the PIN DOES NOT come in the mail. You your child will be able to view it on the website or via the goHenry mobile app as soon as you have activated the card.
It’s important that your child can remember their PIN number easily when they’re out.
Like any contactless or ‘tap and pay’ payment card, the goHenry card can be tapped on a reader at the
point of purchase to easily check out and complete your purchases. As with any payment made using your goHenry card, the limits and rules that you set will still apply when the card’s contactless feature is used.
Your child can retrieve their card PIN themselves in one of two ways. They can login to their goHenry account via the website, click the menu icon at the top left (the three lines), and then click “your card PIN”.
When they click this link they will need to enter their goHenry password and the PIN will be revealed on the screen for approximately 8 seconds.
If they need longer, just re-enter their password and the PIN will re-appear. If your child uses the goHenry app, just follow the same steps, enter the password and the PIN will be revealed.
To retrieve your child’s PIN number on the mobile app, click on the menu icon in the top left hand corner. Then click on, ‘Card PINs’. Then select the child’s name, and type in your password. Click ‘Retrieve PIN’ and your child’s PIN will be revealed for 5 seconds, so make sure you are ready to take note of it.
Your goHenry card will need to be activated online or through the mobile app before it can be used.
When the card is used for the first time your child might be asked to use their PIN. Please remind them that they can retrieve their PIN by logging into their account online or via the mobile app (and it’s always good to remind them never to share their PIN with anyone).
No, there are no spending limits on contactless transactions. But remember for any purchase, including contactless, your children can only spend within the rules and limits you have set for them.
